asshole of the week.

Say hello to House Majority Leader Tom Delay. He's our Asshole of the week!

Why is DeLay the asshole? How much time do you have.

Here's a guy who proudly took part in the ridiculous impeachment of Bill Clinton because Bubba got a hummer in the Oval Office by an intern.

And now DeLay is on the business end of an investigation concerning murky contributions as well as giving family members a half a million dollars for working on his campaign.

What's the response? It's the "liberal media." I love it. What a fucking asshole.

I've hated DeLay for awhile, since he was behind the horse shit redistricting in Texas a couple years ago.

I hope he burns.

pulling an end-around on the morality police.

From Reuters:

Police Raid Club Over Nude 'Art Night'

BOISE, Idaho (Reuters) - An Idaho strip club that attempted to get around a ban on full nudity by giving patrons sketch pads for special "art nights" was cited for violating the city's nudity rules, officials said on Tuesday.

The citation was issued on Monday night to the Erotic City Gentleman's Club in Boise, Idaho.

Boise allows full nudity for "serious artistic" expression only, so the club handed out pencils and sketch pads to patrons so they could sketch naked women.

A police spokeswoman said officials concluded, however, that patrons were not focused on art, so officers cited three dancers for violations of the city nudity ordinance. "The case is being reviewed by the Boise city attorney for the possibility of future citations," said spokeswoman Lynn Hightower.

Erotic City owner Chris Teague called the citations a violation of the civil rights of the dancers, as well as an "insult to the patrons." But the club would suspend 'art night' until the matter was settled in court.

I think this is absolutely hilarious and a great example of exposing a local ordinance as the oppressive sham and joke that it truly is. It is not any government agencies’ charge to determine what is “serious artistic” expression. That’s beyond their reach. Since when is it government’s job to determine what I’m thinking? What I’m doing?

Determining intent has very specific rules – WHEN IT COMES TO MURDER!

Looking at naked women? Please. Don’t you jackasses have anything better to do with your time?

I hope the strip club wins this case. Prudish behavior is your business, indeed. But don’t make it anybody else’s business.

oh yeah, we're gonna leave a few behind.

When you know you don't have to run for re-election, you can do whatever you want, I guess.

From the AP:

U.S. to Change No Child Left Behind Law

By BEN FELLER, AP Education Writer

WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Margaret Spellings plans to fundamentally change enforcement of the No Child Left Behind law, giving preferential treatment to states that prove they're serious about raising achievement, Bush administration officials say.

The change could affect the education of millions of students as states seek federal approval on everything from teacher quality to the measuring of student progress.

In the first example, the Education Department plans to give some states more freedom in how they test hundreds of thousands of children with milder disabilities. But only states that can prove progress or a strong commitment to improve will be seriously considered for that flexibility, administration officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The idea is to get something in return for offering such flexibility, said one official familiar with the changes, such as increased learning and "narrowing the achievement gap."

So I guess we'll change the name to Oh Yeah, We're Gonna Leave A Few Behind Act.

I've spoken to enough Bush supporters to know they often tout him because "he's going to run things like a business." For starters, what the FUCK ever that means!

Secondly, is this what you think is so great about a president who's going to be punitive about establishing federal guidelines for education then dangle it like a carrot on a stick?

Brilliant!

Hey, I'm all for elevating achievement in education. But federally mandated guidelines without any significant funding -- and now a "get to the back of the line" mentality for those who don't bow and curtsy to the revered standard -- is backwards thinking.

Education in the U.S. does, indeed, need help. But this smacks of working backwards to force the issue of voucher programs. And naturally, what the private schools need is tax money rolling in.

Oh yeah, this administration never ceases to surprise me. This just keeps getting better and better.
